This is the third time I'm offering this class. Those who have taken the class the first time have had some amazing breakthroughs with their writing. Writing that comes from a deep inner space takes on a whole new dimension, resulting in rich, textured stories.

For those of you have taken Courting the Muse, this will definitely take you to the next level. However, Courting the Muse is *NOT* a pre-requisite for this course.

Whenever I've attended book-signing events, invariably someone from the audience asks the author: Where do you get your ideas?
After a few seconds of uncomfortable shifting from one foot to the other, the author usually says something vague along the lines of, "Oh, ideas come to me from everywhere."
This, of course, leaves the questioner unsatisfied, with no more clarity than before about where these characters and settings and plots come from. How does the writer coax them to show up? Are they magically summoned into existence somehow? Does she just pull these stories out of thin air?
Many writers have intricate rituals that they engage in before they sit down to write. They may drink tea from a certain cup, or wear a particular sweatshirt, or clean the bathtub or bird cage before entering into the sacred space of their creative work. Some writers work only at very specific times of day. They will use only a special kind of pen or a magical color of ink. Some say a prayer and light a candle.
Yes, creativity is in many ways a mysterious process. But like the process of shamanic journeying and conscious dreaming, there are rituals and rules of the road, so to speak. Once you learn the protocol of the inner worlds, you can more easily call forth the treasures that live in that realm of the creative.
The goal of this course is to give you a map to access the inner worlds so that you can go on the sacred hunt for your own creative treasure, the characters and stories that are waiting for *you* to bring them to life and to light.
At the end of the course, you will have completed a short story or other piece of creative writing that you have retrieved from the magical and mystical world that exists beyond the everyday world where we spend most of our time.
Specifically, in this course, you will have to an opportunity to:
- Explore the basics of shamanic journeying
- Playfully court your "monster" - the thing that keeps your stories locked away; otherwise known as facing resistance
- Strengthen your spiritual traveling abilities with time-tested disciplines
- Increase your physical strength and vitality so that you maintain a sturdy vehicle for your travels
- Meet your creative inner allies
- Create a comfortable and safe journeying environment
- Plan and conduct your own creative walk-about
- Learn the basics of how to "store" and "cook" the treasure you bring back from your creative hunt
- Explore dreaming and other meditative states as gateways to creativity
THERE ARE NO ONLINE OR TELEPHONE SESSIONS THAT YOU NEED TO ATTEND AS PART OF THIS CLASS. You work on the lessons at your own pace, whenever you have time. I am available throughout the month to respond to any question you may have.

Back in 2008, I began studying with Lynn Andrews, spiritual teacher, shaman, and author of the Medicine Woman book series. Under her tutelage, I have learned to apply a variety of shamanistic journeying techniques to my own creative projects. The result has been a more fluid creative process, greater productivity, and even more importantly, an ever-present connection to the realm where my creative allies reside.
